Hey guys, snapped some pics of these guys today. Shame I don't have my aquarium set back up yet...
Are they actually E. Canarensis? or E. Suratensis in disguise?
Last time I saw these in town about 2 years ago they were $99 a fish... now these babies are only $22.99
The EBJD didn't stand out to me in the store but he looks pretty good in these pics.

duanes duanes

They sure do look like the canarensus I had, here are some pics of mine to compare.
These are some of my favorites, and work well in small tanks.

The colors vary with mood.

Now below some Etroplus suratensus

even as juvies the suratensus are distinct

Awesome Thanks Duanes,
I noticed they have the typical X shaped bars that meet, where the Suratensis usually have straight bars.
I'm just a little thrown back by the low price. Damn if only I had my 75 with sump set up, I could have gone with an indian theme

I agree an Indian theme tank would be amazing, with all the varieties of barbs, and loaches like Botia, even archers that would work in tandem with the Etroplus.
I've never kept loaches (even barbs)because they've always seemed geographically incorrect to me, and out of place with cichlids (something I tend to be anal about in display tanks).
But this genus of cichlids would be the perfect opportunity.
