I am planning on picking up five or six juvie wild caught Uaru's from a lfs in Jersey that have for only $8.99. They are supposed to be around 1 1/2-2". I will be adding them to my 180 SA tank. I have been doing some research about Uaru's online and I see mixed comments as to whether they are difficult to raise or not. Some say they are extremely difficult and some say only moderate. Can I get any comments/suggestions and pic's of Uaru's?

I take it that you are refering to the Uaru amphiacanthoids, if so they are very easy to keep and your tank is more than big enugh for them. But if you're talking about the Uaru fernandezeypezi, its a different story, these are more sensitive to water chemistry. If you're in NJ near Rapps, pick up some babies of these "panda" Uaru try them out since they are small and tank bred they should be a lot less difficult to keep. Check out my pair http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0XOpuzsEIM

Yes, Uaru amphiacanthoids. I prefer the look of amphiacanthoids better. Nice video. The Panda's are cool. The Aquarium Center in Clementon has them.

they are easy to keep. when small they like higher temps. around 86 should be good. what are you going to keep them with ???

here are some pics of mine.

Great pic's.

Female Convict x1 (small and does not bother any others)
Firemouth x1
Hypsophrys Nicaraguensis x3. (Nics. They only fight among each other)
Green Sev x1
Geophagus Jurupari x3
Botia Kubotai x3 (Polka dot loach)
Yellowtail Rasbora x3

all sound like good tank mates... just watch the nicks if they breed they might be a problem.
