aro and sand and eating

I have sand with my aro with no problem. He mainly eats off the top but will occasionally grab a large catfish pellet from the bottom.
KNH

stop letting the aro feed from the bottom their is no need for it

throw one prawn in at a time in front of the aro if the aro lets it hit the bottom dont feed it any more

chance are if you keep giving it feeders it will stop eatting the prawn at some point in the future

actually he was on minnows only
then i tried shrimp and he loves it
just cant afford to give only shrimp lol
and ive done the one at a time, takes to long.
he has to pace for each one.
even when he hits minnows he hits the rocks, cus the minnows are down low.
i guess im curious if he ate sand would he be ok?
thats the only problem i see.
in nature its all sand right?lol
:irked:

I se no problem with sand...if it comes to swallowing, will come out through the gill opening..would not worry..

I don't see any health related problems with it. Our aro usually takes food off the top. That's the most natural methoud for them and what they are built for. The tank we have her in has large rocks on the sides and a sandy area in the center. Every once in a while she'll get it in her little fish brain to cruse down and grab a snack off the bottom. Any time she takes in sand she just expresses it through her gills.
