Hey guys and gals I’m brand new to monster fish keeping and so I hope I am posting in the right spot. I am in the process of buying a baby electric eel 3-4 inches and i have been looking online for awhile and found some good information about their general care but I was hoping that someone with hands on experience could tell me what these eels require to really thrive. I’ve kept saltwater reef aquariums for over 5 years and had lots of fun with them but this will be my first truly monstrous fish. I’m familiar with the nitrogen cycle and things like that. So my questions are as follows
1. the guy I am getting the eel from says don’t keep ‘em in a fish tank just a plastic bucket or they will drown, is that necessary or can I keep them in a fish tank with the water a few inches from the top?
2. From people that have had experience with these eels imported do they usually have a high parasite load? And what medication is the best for these eels? I e heard they can be sensitive
3. Are tank mates ok? I know almost nothing will survive long term with these eels but will a few guppies be ok while the eel grows out? I don’t want to stress the eel his well being is #1 priority
Thanks in advance guys
