So I brought in a couple really remarkable Brazil imports the week before last. I didn't have an opportunity to post last week, so here we go.

I suppose I'll begin with some dwarf species and work my way up to the larger growing brutes like Rio Tocantins black rhombeus piranha and Rio Arapiuns red lugubris pikes!
All species, sizes, and prices can be found in the stock list pasted at the end of this thread.

The toucan tetra; these little gems have been imported only very recently and to high acclaim amongst nano-tank and small, rare characin affectionados.

And just to show viewers what a disservice I am providing by sharing menial photographs of outstanding fish, here is a photo that one of my customers took upon receipt of the above species using his camera, expertise, and patience. Thanks very much for sharing that with me David.

My friend Seiichi was kind enough to share one of his photos of Ap. 'yellow Miua' with me. Once again, it makes the fish I've photographed look like cheap cardboard cut-outs in comparison!
This may be the first US import of a species that was only recently discovered/recognized by Japanese collectors only 3 years ago.

The 'big-eyed tetra', T. argenteus, is an interesting character. These tetras grow to around 5-6". They are very bold, strong swimmers that could make excellent dither species or provide activity to tanks containing md sized cichlids and other species.

charax.argent.jpg

charax.jpg

Here is a predatory characin that I am not aware of being previously imported or identified in US imports. In Japan, they've dubbed this fish 'Franken Charax!'

characin.brazil.jpg

How cool is that?! I placed these rarely imported Brazilian characin species together in a 75 gal tank upon receipt. They are doing extremely well in this dynamic mix.
Below are individual photos of the species sharing the above tank.

I have not seen either of the above species imported into the US. Really exciting stuff for rare characin collectors.

I am informed by my shipper who obtained these red lugubris pikes from the Rio Arapiuns locality that they are the most red form of this species; more red than the Rio Tapajos form that's been collected and imported in the past.
