I heard peat moss is bad for herps, but i have some with out the white balls in the dirt.Would this be alrite for my ball python. If not should i use newspaper.A manager at a pet shop told me that it is a good subtrate for ball pythons becuase it holds humidity, help me out here,

i always keep most of my snakes on carefresh,i think its recycled paper products,my tanks stay very clean as i scoope the poop out and any urine areas, you can mist it for humidity and it doesnt seem to dusty, this is just what i do,they can burow in it to,looks alot better than newspaper. My corn is on peat thats pretey dry with a large water bowl.see what others think though, this is just what iv hade good luck with, the care fresh comes in other colors too, like hot pink!i just use brown.:)

The best substrate for a ball is newspaper IMO. I have always kept my ball pythons on newspaper and love the ease of cleanup.

Altho I don't keep them anymore, I would use cypress for them.

Z has snakes for sale(look in signature)

Cypress mulch, aspen, or carefresh. Depends on how you want it to look.

Newspaper is for lazy people.

I believe that last comment was a little uncalled for. Just a matter of opinion.

I use newspaper, paper towel, butcher paper, etc for my snakes... I wouldn't say it is lazy, I just hate spot cleaning. Believe me, I spend more money on cat litter than anyone else since I refuse to spot clean my cat's litterbox.
