do you mean just general info??? i don't understand

both need rather large tanks, especially barramundis which can get up to 180cm....what else do u need to know

Hi guys, i'm new to the forms and need advice on barramundi and oscars (ASAP) I have 2 big oscars 1 is about 28cm long and the other 1 is about 24-25cm long. I want to put barramundi with oscars but the barramundi are only half the size of my oscars, will the oscars eat my barramundi or will the barra be 2 fast for my big oscars. I have a 3ft tank and the barramundi were save from a creek that was dry up (wild barramundi)

Now i have more questions i have the barra in a seperat tank at the moment with hiding spots but they hid in the corners of the tank and don't move around alot. Why do they do this. Wat do you feed them, i have tryed flake food, sinking pellets and worms the barra showed some interest in the worms but did not eat them. How do you simulate the barra's environment. Do barra's eat other barra's. Wat size tank is best for barramundi. do barramundi like it when it's only them in a tank. my barra are always hiding from other creek fish i got.

My email is (gcfootball-champ@hotmail.com) can any 1 send some pics of barra and oscars, the tank set up for barra and oscars.
More Q's wat is the best lighting for a 3ft tank. wat is the best filtration system 2 use for barramundi and oscars

Both kinds of fish get VERY large. And they'l both eat ANYTHING. I would feed them on meat, pieces of fresh chicken and that. If your putting them togetehr you best be using a very very large tank.

I would not be putting the barra in with the oscars at this point.

The barra are obviously very stressed (hence why they are hiding). They would be very easy targets for a large pair of oscars.

The reason why they are not taking the food you are offering is because they are wild caught. These fish would have fed primarily on live food such as other live fish and insects. I would suggest catching or buying some feeder fish for food.

Eventually you will be able to get them onto prepared foods such as pellets. Barra will eat anything!! This will take time though.

How long have you had them for now? They could be very stressed which is why they are hiding and not so active.

A 3ft tank is WAY too small for 3 barra and 2 oscars. A 3ft tank is too small for 2 oscars let alone the barra as well.

If you are seriously considering keeping these fish I think a tank size of 8" long x 2" high x 30" high is the minimum.

I would also be keeping them in quarantine for a while. They could have diseases from the wild.

are you planning to keep them all for life??? if you are i suggest a large pond for the barras most tanks will be to small for three barraz, you will probably have to give them to a public aquarium eventually

Well

1. The tank is too small, and you need to upgrade as soon as possible, because as steve pointed out, 3 barra and 2 oscars are NOT gonna fit in that tank.

2. You really need to read up about barramundi, i can offer this website to help you, but the site just gives general infomation. http://www.nativefish.asn.au/barramundi.html

3. Here is the average growth rate of a barramundi, now just think how long that 3ft tank is gonna support 3 barramundi and 2 oscars? the barra will quickly out grow that tank is a matter of a couple of days, since they have already out grown it now.especially when feeding them live food instead of pellets

YearLength range (mm)1

1 310-330
2 430-500
3 529-610
4 610-690
5 730-770
6 810+

4. Why did you have to rescue them? was the WHOLE lake/river drying up? y not just put them back in the area where they was water, and let them live the normal life, instead of a glass tank, if there was some left. And i dont think the whole creek would be drying up since there would be alot more fish to be "saved" then a couple of barra. Wild barra are different to aquarium barra, they need specific things like live food, a BIG space. where as aquarium barra no nothing of the outside world, and they dont require such things. but they still need a BIG space.

5. Barra will co exist with oscars, IF you have a BIG space.

6. Barras will eat whatever they can fit into there mouths, like 10cm barra can fit 5cm feeders in there mouth, so just dont go putting anything in there that are half the size of the barras, otherwise GOOOOONE.

7. If you are wanting to keep them for as long as you can, i suggest going out to buy a bigger tank asap, as you dont want your fish to be stunted, barras or oscars. something like an 180gal will hold them for about 1 year with 5 big fish in the tank.

8. Where is this creek? as im sure that the legal limit for barramundi to be taken from the wild is 58cm -120cm, 60cm -120cm(gulf of carpentaria(spelling)). As i fish constantly i no this, and its in pretty much every Australian booklet about fish and fish sizes.

9. Good filtration is a must, as they are very messy fish, and with 2 oscars in the picture, its gonna get even messier.

10. Im having a little bit of a go at you because, taking fish from the wild, when they clearly have a size limit is ILLEGAL, and even if they were just a spare of the moment, when you get them home research about them asap, get as much info as possible.

we hope to eat them when they get between 50cm to 1m, would guppies do to feed them for now, because they are only 5cm to 10cm long at the moment, i had to seperat my oscars the other day because they were fighting i now have each of my oscars have a 3ft tank, i plan to get a 6ft long by 3ft wide by 2.5ft heigh for my barra. there were lot of people at the creek because the creek goes up and then down in about 2 to 4 days the barra range from about 3cm to aleast 1.5m long (first in get the biggest ones, people campe there and wait for the creek to go down) anyway thanks for the information on the barra guys (any thing else any1 can think is appreciated)

If they get to big for my tanks i have a dam i can put them in
