Howdy folks, it's been awhile; just got the camera back from the repair shop. At the moment, I am torn between plopping down $200 plus for a sheet of 3/8 glass for my front window or just using some 1/4 and bracing the heck out of it. The tank is 8x4x3, my window opening will be 84"x28"; this is subject to change depending on what glass I can find. My initial thought is to cut out my front piece of plywood so there will be one horizontal brace approx. 3-4" wide across the middle of my window and another vertical brace the same width down the middle. In essence, this will give me 4 separate windows from the same sheet of glass and hopefully adequate support. I may do the same type of windows on the sides. I did the same type of window on my 180 (except for the horizontal brace) and it is fine with the 1/4" glass. I know I am going to get reamed for even thinking about 1/4 glass on a 700 gallon tank, but my wife will ream me even more if I keep spending the dough...

So the back piece is up and waiting for the rest of the pieces to join him. I should be getting my epoxy from Sherwin-Williams by the weekend (glass too hopefully) and then minus getting stabbed by the ol'lady it will come to fruition. More pics to follow.

uhh are those pressure treated 4x4's?

BTW if you dont mind the center brace, why not go for 2 seperate panes? would definitely be more cost effective

Pressure treated of course, lol. But the strength comes from the dimensions, not the CCA percentage. BTW, the only non cca 4x4's were cedar at the local HD.

2 separate panes is definitely an option

Where? I only see 4x4's for the bench under it... Did I miss something?

I was pointing that out because special nails/screws and most importantly, brackets are needed for p/t wood. Dont ask me why, just have always been told that. The chemicals eat every kind of metal.

In my stand built I stuck with kiln dried everything and painted it all flat black, then painted it with high gloss white until it was super white to ensure a protective seal. I wouldnt however take the risk with 6,000 lbs of water. I would go with cinderblocks and 2x12's. lol. but I take everything too far.

Looks great so far. Its obvious you have excellent craftsmenship.
