Hello, I got 1 hejuta beani. It's now in a 1,2meter tank with channa andrao's because mine is only 5cm and I am afraid it will get eaten if I move it to the 2meter tank right now.

I love hejuta's. But I would like to add some fish that I can see at all times swimming in the tank. Thats why I would like to add something like a surface dweller or a fish that doesn't hide. The problem is I bought hejuta's with the idea that they would stay at the surface but if I take a better look at mine it is almost always in the mid-layers. So this maybe because it's still small and likes to stay with the channa's (who are more at the bottom) since it does group at a young age or are hejuta's no surface dwellers?

Can anyone tell me if their hejuta's stay at the surface?

The hejuta is 5/6cm
The fish that maybe able to eat him are:
my poly. ornattipitus is 20cm
my afer knife fish is 17cm
my ctenopoma's are 13cm max
Do u think I can add the hejuta? or at what size I would be able to add the hejuta?

Wouldn’t add the hujeta with those tankmates except the Ctenopoma. Even then would wait till a bit bigger.

Hujetas usually stay at the top but adding a group may keep them toward the top and more interested with each other than the Channa. But keep in mind channa as a tanmaktes may not be the best choice.

+1. But experiences do vary, there's always exceptions. I'd say if you're gonna keep them together get more hujetas to make it more comfortable

Channa's are only with the hejuta till it grows bigger. The channa's will not go to the 2 meter tank. They will stay in the 1,20. It will be a special tank only for 2 channa's. I wanted to add the hejuta to the 2meter but if u and others say it will get eaten then I rather let it stay with the channa's for a month or something till it's bigger to be sure

Thx for tips, I will wait till this one is a little bigger and then I will add him and buy some new ones

lol well I've not got any now. Never liked the look of them to much, preferred odoe. But I wouldn't say they actively school, I'd say they stay together hovering at the top more so. Not gonna be like tiger barbs all over the place if that's what you have in mind.
