Just putting it out there that the Belle Isle Aquarium here in Detroit is open each Saturday from 10am until 3pm... We are working hard right now to expand and increase our collection and efforts. As of now we are the the oldest continually operating aquarium in the US (Even though closed to the public for a bit we always had fish present).. We also are the only Aquarium in the US where one can see all 7 gar species.

Currently we are developing a Volunteer program to help develop and care for the animals and fish in the collection. If local and interested please contact me.

That's cool to hear! I love knowing that one of the places that paved the way is still around. I've had FW stingrays that can be genetically traced to Belle Isle's original group when they first started keeping them.

Growing up in SW MI I'm ashamed to say that I hadn't heard of belle isle aquarium sooner than I did, have been to shed multiple times. It sounds like you guys have been working hard for the last few years to keep the place going, and I commend you for that. You guys need to make your facilities more public to draw attention in, pictures of facilities, etc.

I like the old pics fresh m the aquariums early days. Hopefully I'm never in Detroit but will give it a look if I find myself there, nothing against Detroit but being in the Chicago area I prefer to leave the rust belt when I travel.
