For years I've used Hikari Cichlid Gold as a staple and supplement with blood worms, shrimp, spirulina, etc. I have no real complaints, but just wondering if there are other/better options out there in 2021?
Agree depends on the species and if it's a piscivore ,omnivore, or herbivore.hikari cichlid gold isnt that good if you look at the ingredients thats why i prefer omega 1 krill/bottom feeder pellets but i still use both. algae wafers tend to be one of the most nutritious dry foods for fish. another thing to consider is herbivorous rift lake cichlids will need a much different staple from something like a pike cichlid.
Which kind of NLS are you using? I used to feed NLS to my saltwater community tank and worked well, but the cichlid food has always looked underwhelming. My green terror is used to large sized Hikari gold and I'm not sure that he'd adjust to a 1-3 mm pellet.Oh man did you just open a can of worms....
Can't go wrong with New Life Spectrum.
May be some work to swap them over, but a lot better quality of food.
Casper gets NLS only

NLS comes in many sizes and formulas. Sinking, floating, Algeamax etc so you can pick the best type for your particular fish.Which kind of NLS are you using?
