Best Snook Shot Yet...

They were about three when I got them, so yeah, I'd say they are about 6". Haven't caught them and measured them though, so thats just a gestimate. Its getting more intense every day. The larger one is starting to get the spots of a male, so hoping this one is a female.

ive never been very interested in snooks, but this is deffinently a good looking fish. especially with all that pink around his lips and fins

Beautiful Snook, Nice Pike as well!:headbang2

great snook, especially in the more natural color morph

The red color morph is totally natural too. According to Rusty Wessell (believe me he knows first hand), the fish are found in areas that have tons of lilly pad like plants with flowers that are almost the same color as the red variety of snook. His theory is that the red morph has evolved to mimic the blooms of this plant in order to avoid predatory birds that are numerous in that area. I cannot tell it as well as Rusty, but his idea makes sense. The green morph (I like it better too) is also blending in well with the foilage of the same plant. The fish hangs near the surface so the camo is probably important for safety from predators as well as granting it some ambush advantages on it's prey.

My boss has been and studied them in the wild the reds do hide under lilly pads, but the greens live miles away in much more rocky area's.
