Any thoughts on keeping more than one Bichir in the same tank? I'm planning a 240g (96x24x25") and was hoping to keep an Ornate and Delhezi together. Is it possible? Any tips for long term success or should I avoid mixing and just get one? Also, could they live long term with a black ghost knife? If these three are possible together, what order should I introduce them and what size to avoid aggression/becoming an expensive meal. Thanks!

They should be fine together. Would get the bgk first and let it grow out first. It’s slow growing. Then the delhezi and ornate. The ornate will out grow then both.

The Ornate is one of the largest of the Upper Jaw Polypterus they can be aggressive but personally had Ornate's and a Delhezi thrive in my 180 gallon. So yes they can be combined but the most important key is making sure they are about the same size the Del can actually be a little bigger. Also try to buy them small and grow them out together if possible. You could easily add more Polypterus but be ready to rehome or separate if one gets too aggressive to others.

As everyone has said, with that much space there shouldn’t be any problems with space. I’d probably try and find a larger knife so you could get the polys smaller and as they start to pass it up in size it’ll be big enough to not worry about. However it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. With all that space you could probably grow them together at the same time as long as none can fit in the others mouths.

Yup kept the combo together in the past. Maybe add a few more Polys just in case there is aggression spreading it out between a few fish would be best.

Like J jaws7777 mentioned its better to add more poly just incase the ornate becomes aggressive.
Thanks for the info! What species would you recommend I add to the mix? Should I avoid adding any lower jaw species? There would be a BGK, an Oscar, a fire mouth, and a texas cichlid in there too if that makes a difference.

Would go with lapradei sp. They are safer with larger cichlids.
