Hi, Ive had a bichir for around a year, he is in a large tank and coexisted well with tank mates. He often hides in the driftwood and had been hiding for the last few days. Today morning he came out and i noticed a large part of his tail had turned white. He also seemed to have while patched on his pectoral fins and cloudy eyes. I also suspect he has difficulty seeing.

Steps taken so far:
Moved him to a querentine tank
Added some rock salt and set temperature to 28celcius in quarentine tank
Did 90% water change in main tank and added some rock salt

What is the best way to cure this guy, and ensure this infecrion doesnt spread to other fish in the main tank?

If you can get a better close up of the bichir. Can tell if it's a slime coat, ammonia burn, or fungus. Don't look bacterial infection just yet.

Get some water parameters from ur tank and new tank as well.

But keep the salt going for now. Would lower the temp to 25-26 degrees Celcius.

If ur able to get some methylene blue and use that. Preferably as a dip.

Post some pics and give some updates if able.

unfortunately in my haste and panic to prevent the infection from spreading (and also due to the lack of my ability to find my testing kit in time) i could not record original parameters :( . Current parameters are:

Original tank (after 90% water change)
Temp: 24 Celsius
pH: 7
Ammonia: 0.1
Nitrite: 0.0
Nitrate: 30ppm

Quarantine Tank:
Temp: 27 Celsius
pH: 7
Ammonia: 0.0
Nitrite: 0.0
Nitrate: 25ppm

Here are a few pics i tried to click, not sure if i did a meaningful job with the pics but didn't want to stress him out too much. He seems sluggish and bumping into stuff in his quarantine tank. Tried to capture eyes, tail and pectorals which seem the most impacted, he is a little white on dorsal spines too :(

Keep the salt and up ur water changes to 2-3 times a week. It should do fine. No need for methylene blue unless something changes. Keep updates on the poly Senegalus.

Looks like cloudy eye and almost fin rot. Would still get some methylene blue or triple sulfa. Antibiotics will mess with ur beneficial bacteria so watch ur water.

Keep ur nitrates as low as possible.
