I've heard rumors of foot-long Chinese algae eaters. Eight-inchers being more common, I've never seen one over five. Just wondering about a show fish for my 80g if the Green Terror keeps up his hunger strike.
If anyone has a photo of an adult of considerable heft, can I see it?
I had one a few years ago that grew to be about 10". Didn't see much of him though he spent most of his time hidding in a fake log. The only time I would see him was when I would sneek in the room but then he would zip back into hidding when he saw me.
yea they do get mean and stop eating algae and just eat normal food and sometimes will suck the slime coat of fish but really cool fish 2 have. i have had 1 that got around 8 inches but got eatin but a oscar i had a while back he was still getting meaner and bigger.
I've seen them get to around the 10-12" mark and really fat, most lfs around here use them in big display tanks to clean and i guess they get left in there as they are a pain in the butt to catch especially in a bigger tank..
When we started out in the hobby we got told to buy them as algae cleaners and got a few for our 2ft and after that they got moved to our 6ft sa/ca cichlid tank. We got rid of them not long after as they became even more aggressive than the other fish in the tank!

mines 3 and a half and spends his time in a fake log also, he used to be really agressive but then he jumped out of the tank and we found him all dry and stiff, my bf put him back into the tank (dont know why) and in 5 min he came too and has been the sweetest little fishy ever since!!
