I'd like to share a design I found at koiphen, and built for my pond. The next step is to build an indoor version for my tanks.
I have used foam fractionation in my tanks for years using a venturi, but Ethan25's design is much simpler, user friendly and incorporates a bio tower.
1st the finished product fractionating, after only 30 minutes after cranking up.
fractionating parts
large tube filled with media, in my case lava rock (any bio media will do).
The pipe in 4"diameter, and about 4' high, water enters at the top and flows down.
water travels to the right, bubble froth carries away waste and fractionated water enters pond thru a 1"pipe.
Koiphen-phoam phractionater thread has the details on ho to make it.
There is a filter sock (hard to see in the photo, but its there)where water enters at the top of the bio tower to catch debris.
