it appears that one of my discus have black spots on it. I read this could potentially be that the discus is 'peppering', if that is the case is it harmful to the discus? if not then what could this be?

Is your discus a pigeon blood? like below;

Peppering is just like the bars seen on most discus. The peppering is often referred to as pigeon blood, which encompasses many different types of discus.

Does a red malboro present peppering?
I bought 2 discus as Red malboro, but they have this black dots!

could very well be a gold pigeon blood, but i'd go with marlboro over pigeon blood.

Pigeon Blood is the type of discus (or mutation if you will)....marlboro red is just the commercial name for a variant of the Pigeon Blood. Either way, all Pigeon Blood based discus have varying degrees of peppering. A lot of hobbyists and breeders determine the quality of a Pigeon Blood based discus for quality not only by shape and whatnot....but also by the intensity of the peppering. The less peppering the better. There are Pigeon Blood based discus out there now that have virtually zero peppering (extremely minute "dusting" along the anal fin and near the mouth). Of course they are sold as very high quality fish.
