I just got this black tropical gar and i noticed the eyes look cloudy. Is it a bacterial infection? Or it could be that it’s blind and that’s why its black? First two pictures are of the place were I got it and last one is my tank.

Seen several with this kind of appearance to the eye. Not sure if this is normal since not many black gars around. I’d assume usually due to poor water quality. I’d suggest checking ur water parameters for now. Keep nitrates below 20ppm as much as possible. Check ur pH. Is it acting normal? Eating normal? Rapid breathing? If still an issue and worried I’d try triple sulfa or neomycin.

thanks! I just got it yesterday so it is Still not eating but is active. I will keep water paremeters good and maybe add some melafix and wait two weeks before adding antibiotics. Here’s a video in the quarantine tank.

Could be signs of cataracts? I had an Oscar with the same issue a few years back. He ended up going blind
