I have two corn snakes, and i was wondering if i could use a blacklight above the tank so i can view them at night when they move about, i have a small blue betta light clipped to the tank right now, and that just doesnt illuminate enough

will the blacklight bug the snakes? is it safe?

Will it make em glow? i suppose not, but thatd be cool lol

ty for your replies in advance

It probably would work best to keep a normal light cycle, but have a supplemental light that you could turn on for viewing. It has been said many times that a red bulb does not disturb animals, but.......
I would say that a blacklight would be OK for occasional viewing as well.
That being said, if you aren't breeding them you can have a lot of variance in light cycle with little to no detrimental effects.

Blacklights can blind them (and fish, and You!) with prolonged use, never stare directly at a blacklight. If you use it for your snakes get them little dark goggles. Red light bulbs work well and it is what they use to view nocturnal herps at public displays.

use an infrared red light bulb. they come in all sizes (wattage) and when they are on the snake doesnt know. they are not that expensive either. they light the cage up nicely and heat it up too.

It will seem like dim light to them if blue, supposedly most nocturnal amimals don't see into the red end of the spectrum.
