Has anyone tried this stuff? Or is it a waste of money? :bling: Is PEAT MOSS better?
I think peet moss would be alot better black water extract can get expensive i use the exctract you just have to take the carbon from the filter the carbon will just get rid of the color so far my color has lasted about 4 days still testing it. Peet most is better though.

People rarely have it for piranha...but it's not harmful. I prefer not to.

Peat moss is not a composted material so wouldn't it rot under water. After Five years of keeping fish i have never heard of this. How do you use peat moss in the water. As a substrate? And what are the pros and cons

just replace carbon with the peet most or u could boil the moss or oak leaves and pour it into the water whatever floats ur boat u just have to keep an eye on ur ph. The peat moss can trigger mating faster growth and faster healing fish also adapt to it better because the water has a natural look to it. You could leave ur light on and fish wouldnt be bothered buy it too much because the water would still be dark. In my tank i put these yellow gold and brown stones in it then i put my light under the tank and when i turn on the light it looks like lava it pretty cool

Heres some more info on peat moss http://joshday.com/blackwatertank.htm

I've kept fish for a while and have used peat in discus tanks for about 2 years. I've never used it with carbon because carbon removes the tannins the peat releases from the water. I'm not sure off the top of my head what is in the blackwater extract, are you talking about the one made by tetra?

either way i would suggest trying peat moss it works great for me. and the reason i asked what kind is because tetra brand blackwater extract is junk

Azoo double black water extract. I use it for most of my smaller fish tanks, anything under about 200gallons. The fish love it, and the fry % survival rate is much larger.
