Considering getting some blood parrots to be some dither fish in the stingray and arowana tank. In order for them to go in there they would need to be a solid 6-7". Generally how fast do they grow to this size? I have one in the ray tank now I really like so would like to add more.

Any experience / thoughts would be great. They would be grown out in a very large system so water quality would be very good.

I got ten of them as dithers for my armatus which worked great. The armatus are all gone but those darn parrots are tough and now are dithers for my cichlas. Had them for almost two years. For some strange reason other fish will not touch them. May be because of their looks. They have never been nailed by any fish. Very hardy...eats anything. The best part is their mouth is so small they can't get too many of my expensive food for my cichlas.

How large were they when you got them and how fast did they grow?

Mine grew very slowly, I got blood parrots and other CA cichlids at 2 inches, by the time all the other cichlids were 5 inches, the BPs were 3 inches, I don't remember the time frame though. Same here with the aggression, the other cichlids very rarely picked a fight with the BPs, I think mainly because they had no idea how to lip lock them lol

Got them at 2". Those pics are from a week ago. I keep food away from them because they are dithers but if fed regularly I would say you can get the to 4"-5" in 6 months. I know someone that put a 3" RP in with a 24" silver aro with no problems.

Thanks for the info guys!

I do not think the arowanas would be the issue, it would be my rays and that is why the BPs need to have some size to them.

For clarification mine are KKP which are bigger than the RP. If you want size get KKP.
