They are tanks, IME more territorial than aggressive being a larger herbivore they likely need a large territory to guarantee enough food. If keeping with other cichlids I would recommend a tank with at least a 6 foot run. Thanks for the help! These have really been catching my attention lately. If I wasn't maxed on space is my larger tanks I'd add one of these I believe. They're quite different and not seen an awful lot. Some but not a lot
So the bocourti is somewhat peaceful? In your experience at least? Sounds smart to oscars behavior?
The pearsei is another bruiser I like the look of
That's the directioni was leaning. I just can't see a snook fairing well with a dovii?? Especially not trying to endure a spawn. I do love the look of that red bay though and I didn't realize they tolerated tankmates. That opens up a lot of ideas for future plans.I believe that is an olde wives tale... the first dovii caught in the hobby was a red dovii, ended up being a female.
morphs like that aren't that uncommon but given how much they stand out they tend to live in deeper water, similiar to amphs or vieja fenestratus or convicts or even JD's.
I dont know how well a snook would fair with a dovii trying to spawn TBH
I don't believe snook are likely to reach their terminal size in an aquarium- i think they max out closer to like 14/16" the largest i had was about that size and friendly to me but peaceful to tankmates. Regrettably i sold both snook and pearsei some years ago to go for a more aggressive setup- that was a mistake.
