Getting boggled down with "weld on" "glue" as I am going to be ordering pieces of acrylics and putting them together to form more sable shelf system for rock placements (pixs/diagrams to come later on when I get everything together)

The shelf system I want to put pieces of acrylics together is going to be put in my L-046 tank and I do not want to risk my little guys over toxic glue

theres no "safe" list that I could find which weld ons, many different suggestions like epoxy (which I'm not crazy about)

which brand is the best to bond acrylic to acrylic thats going to be aquarium safe

I also am wondering what could bond acrylic TO glass the best as well too

Found a jar of weld on #4 on ebay and he's local but not sure if I'm going to buy it if its toxic :(

i used weldon #3, which is a very thin substance, almost like water, so you have to have really straight, smooth edges to bond, and i also used #16 as a gap filler kind of like silicon. As long as you let the weldon dry throughly for 24+ hours you wont have any toxin issues.

I used #16 on my saltwater sump and it worked great. I had some rough edges and sloppy cuts so I had a few leaks on test, just dried the area dumped in more weld on and let it dry 24 hours. I had no problems at all. Once the Weld On is dry it is fish safe.

I read somewhere on a site that #3 was illegal in some places hence the reason of my worry if any was fish safe- okay- i'm going to be trying #16 as general census used that-

thanks all of you guys for responding

Weld on #3 is illegal in some places because of the toxic fumes it gives off as a liquid. Not because it is toxic when dry.

Its most likely illegal in some places due to the glue sniffin teenagers. They have to outlaw the stuff to protect these fools from themselves. Instead of outlawing the stuff they should make it more accessible. Let natural selection take its course.

I prefer #420 myself:naughty: Its wonderful stuff. It keeps me firmly glued to the couch:)

Makes sense about the fumes for #3

and

yea, 3 does give of some wicked fumes, but as they all say, weldon evaporates and leaves no toxins
