Brackish Cichlid Conversions

Anyone ever have any luck slowly graduating some of the Cichlids that can be found in Brackish water and estuaries? I know Mayans and "Texas" are 2 of them.....WHICH Texas is the question though, cyannoguttatum or carpintis. Anyone have any luck/experience doing this and which if any other species can this work for?

I think what I want to do is get some Mayans before start converting my Moray tank to brackish and graduate them together.

Thoughts?

Never heard of anyone keeping those 2 in brackish water. Personally I haven't researched it but I'd imagine that, while they are capable of surviving brackish water, mostly freshwater is preferable. Only full brackish cichlids I've heard of are red and green chromides.

A study on converting Central American cichlids to full saltwater. In the study, the black belt cichlid was converted to full marine, and jack dempseys showed a preference to brakish.

that was a good read, thanks. Will come in handy soon
just be careful with the moray, they like high brackish and are very predatory
They are only G. tiles, max out about 24", they are already close to 18" but I'm not seeing them being big enough to cause any issues for aggressive cichlids. I'm guessing they hit certain length and just grow thicker and get solid, like typical Morays. I'm actually more worried about the Morays getting beat-up. Mayans aren't exactly known for "playing well with others"

You won't have any problems with Mayans! I have some in FW and one in 32.5 ppt, don't seem to see any difference in growth rate.

Also other "true" brackish large cichlids that you may or may not be able to get are:

Pearl cichlid (Geo brasiliensis)

Green chromide (Etroplus suratensis)

1.) WOW....my Brasiliensis is gonna look like THAT???!!
2.) That's one of the LAST fish I would expect to be OK in Brackish water. You have done this before?
