Hello,

Just a few questions about breeding chocolates, hoping to hear from someone with experience. The past 3-5 days or so both of my chocolates have been constantly flaring their gills at each other and twitching/shaking. Just wondering if I should be expecting them to spawn soon and when? What is the process like from here? Thanks

Matt

Nope. And no they haven't spawned. They did that off and on for a while and then just stopped. I believe they are a little under 2 years old so maybe not quite ready yet.

At two years I'd imagine they would be ready. How big are they?

A quick google search says they lay their eggs on vertically inclined rocks, have you got any rocks in the tank? Any tank mates?

Yes lot of vertical rocks and driftwood. They are with a young pair of Rotkeil Severums (smaller than the chocolates), a pair of Red head Tapajos and a pair of Acararicthys Heckilii in a 90g

My pair bred in a 90 community.I would keep up with regular wc, you can try cooler water on the wc.feed a little more,to make sure they get all their nutrition.look for the females tube, eggs should follow soon after
