I want to know too... I've got 10 adult Congo's and would like to breed them too. Guess I could take a pair of them out of the community tank and put them in their own tank and see what happens. Any breeding tips?
the bigger the school the better yer chances.. 3 or 4 males to 1 female.. good water lots of plants with large leaves.. warm water then do a big water change with water thats 5-10 degrees cooler.... thats what always set them off for me... that i know of i had 3 spawns but i gave up on paying attention because the clown loaches always ate the eggs within 24 hours...
saddly i managed to kill all 16 of mine over the weekend... turns out the plug on one of the canisters wasnt fully pluged in for a week or two... ... also lost 6 or so clown loaches and a flounder pleco (L168)
Is this right? Usually it is reccomended for most species that the females should outnumber the males. Also do the eggs get eaten by the parents? Should a "breeding tank" have a bottom covering of "marbles" or "mesh" to prevent the eggs from being eaten?
Most of this info sounds similar to what I've heard too. At least 2 males to every female.
Not sure if you're supposed to have one breeding 'set' or more in the breeding tank.
As far as set up is concerned, I was going to go with something like a 30x12x12 or similar with a layer of java moss or large marbles on a bare bottom tank.
I think you're supposed to put a divider in the tank to separate the males from the female, feed them up with good food - bloodwoom, live stuff, then take the divider out late at night.
They'll spawn the next morning if you get it right.
Large eggs (for a tetra) but I think the fry still need infusoria to start with followed by freshly hatched baby brine shrimp. If I find out any more, I'll post it.
