i've pulled my pair out of the main tank and have them in a 3' 50g tank on their own with the intentions of breeding them. ive got a bunch of plastic plants for cover some drift wood creating some shelter and cave ish things and i put a couple of the small terracota pots in, one on its side and the other sitting top down with a chunk broken out of the rim so there is a small opening. should this work? is there a different set up i should try? should i get a bigger pot? any tips, thanks.

I would add some tetras as dithers. They should help strengthen the pair bond between the male and female. You can always remove them once the pair starts to breed. Also make sure there are a lot of small places for the female to hide. She needs to be able to get away from the males aggression.

I was thinking of adding some dithers or one of my sevs from another tank to give the pair something else to focus on. So far I haven't seen any aggressive behavior, she was wary of him when the first got moved in but now they two peas in a pod. Lots of places to hide in this tank. So much so that I sometimes can't find her, he is usually under the driftwood right front and center. I tried giving them a slightly cooler WC the other day but doesn't look like the are quite ready since the move

Got any pics? I know you said they are hard to find right now but Id love to see a pic of the tank set up, etc. I used to keep C. Regani in a 4' long 60. Had a male and 3 females. But you've done well to move the two in by themselves, and definitely I would go with dithers rather than the Sev. Give them some time but yes, cool water changes are also the way to go. I never moved my male out with a female as I didn't have an available tank at the time but they sure did love that long 60g. Best of luck! Keep us posted. I would go with some top-level tetras. Congos? Would love to see a pic of the fish too. I sure do miss keeping those guys.

I wouldn't stay away from the severum. It will get too large and aggressive for them. You want fish the parents can push away without them being attacked. Plus the sev would make short work of any fry. Good Luck and post some pictures

i was kind thinking that. i think i'll try to get some medium sized live bearers or something to use as dithers
