Hi guys,

I wanted to know how easy it is to breed these guys. They are perfect feeders if I can breed them right. Any info helps.

x2 on your own post?

I don't know anything about breeding minnows but I would just throw a bunch in a tank and see what happens...

i am currently breeding about ten rite now. just leave them in a tank about the same temp as their natural habitat with places for the young to hide. (they give live young). they are sex addicts so it shouldnt be hard. good luck!

Do you mean minnows or guppies? Both are easy to breed, but minnows lay eggs and guppies give live birth.

If you are looking to breed minnows all you need is to have either a pair or you can get a couple males and 5-6 females per. Make your you have a spawning mop or lots of java moss in the tank. The water should be between pH 6.5 and 7.5, slightly soft, and between 68-75 degrees F.

Give them good feedings and you should see the male flare and display in no time. If there are a few males they will probably all start. If a female sees something she likes she will lead the male over to the spawning mop and do their magic. When they are done just remove the mop and wait for them to hatch.

They will need small fry foods when they hatch though.

Guppies are probably easier to raise for feeders.

I should also mention that keeping the males and females separate for a week or two will help to encourage spawning when you toss them back in together.

If you don't have a breeding net you can encourage them to breed in a nylon mesh net and the eggs will fall through. Be careful of snails as well, they will eat the eggs.

yes he is right you also need things for the young to hide because the males will eat the eggs and the young when they do hatch so best thing to do is after momma bear puts out grab ur net and place in diff. tank its easy if u have 2-3 tanks 1 for a whore house and the others for hatching. That way u can get the most feeders.minnows r good for catching cats too..i love them. So did my ferate
