I've got a 150 planted tank with 5 bristlenose plecos, a gold nugget, and a real little pleco that I'm not sure what it is. Bn spawned and i had like 50 fry one day and slowly they disappeared down to only 5. What could have happened?
I wrapped filter inlet so they're not in there. And they're aren't any other fish
Could a different pleco eat fry?

I just found out that a mature gold nugget will eat bristlenose fry. Just bristlenose won't eat their own

Pleco's like most any other fish, will most certainly eat fry, that is why in most cases after spawing they will need too be removed, or move the eggs to a 10 gallon tank to raise the fry. Anytime you have a large adult fish with egg layers like plecos, and other plecos in the tank, dont expect high survival rates, and dont expect a lot of fry. Remember plecos need 3 things, proper diet, excellent water quality, and high amount of water flow and oxygen. They also need some space. I predict that the next time they spawn youll have better results. Good luck man! And remember, even in the aquarium setting losses are to be expected. cheers! :mwave:

I agree with Wallin, having spawned 6 different species of Bristlenose I've found BN usually won't eat their own fry once they leave the cave but sometimes they will when they are young parents, and other will most certainly will. Not always, but it's pretty common. BN will also eat the eggs if they are young parents and get spooked (keep your flash-lighting and other cave checking options to a minimum).

I would suggest an in-tank fry saver. Once you notice the fry starting to leave the cave, put the fry in the container (or the whole cave if it'll fit as they are about impossible to get out if dad is still in there). Keep them there until they are ready to leave (4+ weeks, longer if your saver is large enough). Then they will have a much better chance of surviving. Fry saver makes it a whole heck of a lot easier to count them, keep your eye on them, feed, clean, etc. To clean, get a piece of flexible airline type hose and use that as your 'gravel cleaner'. You can just suck up the poo off the bottom of the saver. You can control the water flow by squeezing the airline tube with the hand you are holding the draining end, slowing down the flow when fry get close, or if you suck one up (you can drain him right back into the saver)

Good luck!

It is also possible that the fry dispersed and starved. Pleco fry are still fry and need to eat a lot, so unless you were throwing in a ton of food daily and doing lots of water changes to compensate, the fry likely didn't get enough to eat either.
