I have a bare bottom tank. It grows brown algae on the bottom from time to time which I scrub off. If I add sand, wouldn't algae still grow on the sand at the bottom as well? How would I remove the algae on the sand?

Yes algae will grow wherever the light and nutrients exist. I usually clean 1/2 my sand every 2 weeks or scrub if off every week on a bare bottom tank. This way I usually never see it

Yeah, the algae will grow on the sand. If you stir the sand up, though, or have some fish that like to root around, it should bury and kill some of the algae.
