Today while feeding him I noticed a bubble like lump sticking out of his butt, it’s clear and see-through, almost like an inflated clear balloon. So I went through photos on my phone and found that it’s been there for at least 4 months now, the same size. All water parameters are normal.

He’s pooping and eating fine otherwise. Just wondering what could it be? Prolapse? Can they last so long without worsening?

If it’s prolapse wouldn’t it be much bigger after 4+ months? It’s also not as “fleshy” looking as the prolapse pic I’ve seen online. Could it be breeding tubes? Tbh I’m not sure if it’s a he or a she.

Here’s the photo I’ve take in early August, as you can see it’s the same size as now.

Could be breeding tubes or prolapse. If it’s a solo fish and no females or tankmates then i assume prolapse. Plus would have happened earlier.

So does he looks like a male? I’ve heard female’s breeding tubes are more rounder and bigger.

Will it be too late for the Epsom salt treatment if it’s prolapse? It’s been 4+ months.

Not sure about cichlids and sexing. Can ask Gourami Swami Gourami Swami james99 james99 duanes duanes about this as they are the cichlid gurus.

Still worth a try to soak food with Epsom salt sol (1/2cup distilled water and 3/4 tsp Epsom salt). Been there that long it’ll be har for say.

Since blood parrots are mutant line bred fish in the same category with balloon goldfish, other short bodied cichlids, and/or balloon mollies etc etc, much of what happens inside the fish supersedes the norm.(because ballon goldfish have been mutatated for centuries, some of the issues may be resolved, although you really can't know how many were originally culled just plain kicked the bucket, before they were sent to market)
Although the outsides of BPs are distorted, the inner organs require the same space as normal fish, and in these line bred mutantions this space is limited, causing health problems, swim bladder issues, and "maybe" things such as organs jutting out from in, as in the OPs photo(?).
Using "normal fish" powers of observation of symptoms may be of negligible use.
