I’ve been planning to start this thread for a while now unfortunately an unforeseen even has made me push it out now. I want this thread to basically go over a long period of time from raising up young BumbleBees attempting to spawn and raise the fry and just document my experience and how things go.

A bit over a year ago I bought 2 CB baby BumbleBees and they quickly became my favourite fish in the fish room, I believe they were both males one started becoming pretty aggressive to the other. I rehomed the one getting attacked as the aggressor had the better colour and personality, at the time those were the only 2 fish available so I planned to start growing out a group and attempt to pair them with my current one whenever they became available again. It took me just over a year to finally track down and acquire a small group of juveniles unfortunately things didn’t go to plan and late last night I was doing a water change on my 200 (which houses my big Bumblebee) and forgot to put the glass pane back on and woke up this morning to my big guy dried up on the floor.

He was an absolutely amazing fish and easily a favourite fish I’ve ever kept, I wish I had pictures of him alive he was a stunning Oscar.

Atleast I was lucky enough to acquire a small group of wild caught juveniles before his passing, they currently are in a 20gal long quarantine that share the tank with 2 delhizi bichirs (until the bichirs are big enough to not be eaten by my senegals) the tank runs on a Tidal 75 HOB and 150W Eheim heater.
Here are pics of when I first got the 3 checking out their bichir tank mates:

I’ve had the 3 for a little over 3 weeks now and already they have put on ALOT of size it also just so happens my LFS got in a small batch of these aswell (wouldn’t tell me their supplier) so I’m hoping they aren’t related but I’ll be picking up 2 more after work today! Ill take some pictures of the new and old ones and update the thread later tonight.

Sorry for your loss will tracking your journey with the new group.

Update! On Friday I went to pickup 2 new Os although they had early signs of ich so the store wouldn’t sell me them that day and told me to come back in Sunday/Monday to pick them up (assuming they get through the meds well) while they would also hold them for me so I could get first picks.
The 3 current fishes:

(Have them just over 3 weeks now)

And here are the newbies…

(I need to clean the glass when I get a chance!)

And all together!

I think I’m either going to have to put a divider in or separate one of the current Bees as one of the 3 has started to become somewhat territorial and dominant to the others. I think I’ll keep the 5 Oscar’s in this 20 for MAYBE about a month just to get a bit more size on them and then I’ll move them to a 125 to grow out some more so they don’t get eaten/bullied when they get moved to the 220, the bichirs will also be moved out fairly soon (within the next 2 weeks) to a 75gal grow out before they and a couple senegals head to a 125 “African” tank.
I think I may have to up my water change schedule to 2-3x a week with this many fish it’s going to be pretty crowded until the bichirs move out.
