Hey guys,

I just came across someone's thread recently who had a caiman lizard next to a water dragon. I've been trying to develop some research on this guys, but all I see is just prices...lol if u know what I mean. Well long story shot is their any good info on these awesome lizards? Thanks, bet I have a feeling the guy who has that thread I just talked about has helpful info...lol

its tough to find good info. I have heard that apple snail can be found in Chinese food stores and that some cat food works as well. Also, there are canned snails and other processed food made for reptiles but it is a bit more expensive.

They'll eat anything. We aren't dealing with wild caught Adults that are already programmed to eat certain things. Those days are long over. Care is the same as a Water Monitor, and isn't that complicated........

I beg to differ, if you set it up the same way as a water monitor there are going to be some problems. They are not designed to take foods like mice. I think that they would need a similar food to what they have been eating to stay healthy.

Proof? Mine did just fine, and they are continuing on the same course with their new owner. We feed alot of things that animals weren't designed for. You feed your Vipers Pinkies right? But weren't they designed for Lizards? Think about it......

I dont recomend at all the cat food part but I beleave mazuri croc food is ok.

i would think that their diet would be much like a blue tail or dumerils monitor with lots of insects, crayfish, snails, and mice every so often
that is if you have a CB animal though
and caging would be at least a 8x4 with 1/3 water to land IMO

okay, That I can understand more. I still Don't get how they can eat mice though, aren't their teeth strictly molars?

Everywhere I have read, their diet is snails...apple snails are from that region, peru...so I would go with snails.

P.S. I have a springer spaniel, and he'll eat a Big Mac, a Hershey Bar, and anything else you put in front of him...doesn't mean it's a good idea... :grinno:
