in other bichir websites, people say that they need a 125 gal minimum for a full grown 24 inch (?) ornate bichir. i am planning to get a 70 or a 80 gal tank. ornates don't seem too active so can they live in one of those tanks. can the orate livewith 2 albino senegalus bichir, one delhezi bichir and one red wolf fish in a 70 or 80 gal tank???

thanks

so wolf fish aren't good tankmates for polypterus? RU sure?? my red wolf fish is 7 inches right now and is fairly nonaggresive since i feed him strictly of shrimp and pellets for a year.

It's not the aggression of the wolffish. Infact red wolffish are the wimp. I have a 12" palmas polli that swallowed a 8.5" wolfish. Let alone an ornate that will get to 16" in that tank. I have mix larger wolffish with bichirs and they do fine. Not the red wolf though. They taste like feeders to bichirs somehow. I also had a smaller size 9" nigerian senegalus before and been nipping on a 8" red wolf. They will be ok when they are small, but once the bichirs get bigger, that wolf is a goner. That albino senegalus will be your best tankmate to the red wolf as they max out the same size of the red wolf.

Im gonna say no. I saw a 17"-18"" Ornate with about a good 2.5" of girth in 55g and it had a hard time moving and turning around. I know you said a 75g but that isnt much larger than a 55g. I would agree and say 100g + tank for a full grown Ornate.

If you want an ornate just get a bigger more suitable sized tank, why would you want to keep it in the bare minimum sized tank?
If you would love to keep an ornate, care for it like you would a good friend.
