I bought this at Lowe's. It says 99% salt. Can I use this instead of API aquarium salt? I need this for fin damage in my freshwater tank.

No it won't work. It's a completely different type of salt than aquarium salt. Usually it's potassium. If you want to do it cheaply, get pickling salt. Same stuff as aquarium salt at 1/10th the price.

Ok.. Apparently the Morton stuff is ok though. They even say on their website that you can use their water softener or pickling salt for aquariums. Maybe I will run to Home Depot instead to see if they have any and I will return the Diamond Crystal from Lowe's.

Diamond crystal is NaCl, aquarium salt is NaCl, pickling salt is NaCl, Kosher salt is NaCl, not sure what Morton's water softener is, probably NaCl too. Some water softeners are KCl and you can use that too in your aquarium. It seems some just like to be negative and say "no don't use that" for no reason. Why do you need aquarium salt? Making a brackish water setup?

I used the same exact brand (diamond crystal), they're OKAY for aquarium

Awesome! What ratio did you use for treating disease? I had somebody tell me that for my 240 gallon aquarium it would be 2.5 cup for the Morton stuff. So I am assuming this would be the same?

I am pretty sure my brother uses that type and he has a tropical community tank.
