Since this is a bacterial med, I was wondering if it has effects on the beneficial bacteria. I read some article about Maracyn and the person said to remove the biological media as well. So I was thinking, if the fish are being treated, they would only have the mechanical filtration. How would the water quality be safe? Without Bio filtration there could be an ammonia spike or something like that.

I don't have hard facts to back it up, but i have found that ammonia levels will rise with it's use. I guess deductive reasoning would say yes then. I just keep a sponge for mech and water movement in my hospital tanks with enough water changes to keep ammonia levels down

YES IT WILL --I made a very costly mistake doing this a few years ago and found out the hard way. On there site it says if used as directed it will not harm your bio logical filtration. And that is complete BS. Maracyn is a antibiotic which means it kills bacteria and it does not care if it is the bacteria that is harming your fish or the bacteria that is helping your tank stay healthy. i tried to get a mod to sticky some info about this awhile back but that never happened.-----IMO the only way to use a antibiotic is in a hospital tank.

he's only going to be in the hospital tank like what 5-7 days. And IMO since the fish is sick i would feed only every other day. And just check the ammonia levels every other day like in between feedings.--------------------------oh I just remembered i think in the directions for maracyn and maracyn2 it says to do a 25% water change daily before treatments. I have allways added some salt in the hospital tank as well cause it releives any stress from the new tank and sickness and salt also helps fight against nitrite poisoning, which is a plus. Ammonia takes a while to build up and it should not spike unless there is a huge sudden increase in waste. So don't feed for a day before it goes in. Well all this is what i have allways done and it has worked out, so good luck.

Ok I set up the hospital tank, has a sponge filter running, heater, and I added 2 plastic plants for cover to make the fishes stay in the tank less stressful. I added a little salt as well. I then just dosed the Maracyn.

In the next 24 hours I will have to redose, so should I change water and dose again or dose it without changing anything?
Basically, add more meds on top of whats in there each day?

I will check water parameters daily and watch for ammonia and nitrIte, if they are high I will do a water change. But other than that I wont do it if theres no ammonia or nitrIte build up. It says on the directions to not do water changes, only IF the ammonia is up. Does this sound like a good plan? Am I doing anything wrong?

personally i wouldn't feed him is he's only gonna be in there a few days, less waste=less ammonia

True, I figure a few days no food isnt that bad. Some fish can go a week or 2 easy with no food. Lots of people starve their fish to convert them from live foods to non live. I think it will be Ok. Maybe I might toss a little food every few days.
