You say "Bala shark" as in singular, so i'm assuming just one Bala shark. Balas prefer to be kept in groups, some say 5 or 6 minimum. But therein lies the next problem. Multiple balas in that size tank, long term, is a no no. They have the potential to hit 13".

Ok, could I replace the Bala with a Pleco or maybe a small school of tiger barbs and still keep leaf fish with Gouramis

I'll be honest i'm not familiar with those smaller fish you mentioned but others will certainly chime in. Replacing the balas though is a good idea. You could certainly have a pleco in that tank but do your research though first. There are many many Plecos, some grow huge but there are smaller varieties too. You'd need a smaller one in that size tank.
