Central/south american cichlids for a 40 gallon?

Just one cichlid in a 40 gallon...
I've considered MANY different cichlids, mostly in the convict complex.
standards for the fish:
- colorful
- can tolerate other fish in the tank
- is readily available
- is pretty hardy
- rounded snout like convicts, I don't really like cichlids with pointed snouts like thorichtys or geophagus.
- mostly red or blue... or both
- 3-6 inches
if anyone could suggest cichlids for a 40 gallon that fit these...

You could do 2 Amatitlania nanoluteus in that size tank.

Lone male hericthys deppi with some CA dithers would be fine in a 40 breeder.

Yes it could work but depends on the personality of the EBA. Had a pair and the male and female were pretty mild mannered until they spawned and the female nearly killed the male.
