I tried a little mirror grooming today. Just a quick 20 minute session to see what it's about. I'll post pictures to show the changes. These were right at 24 hours apart. Nothing changed besides the mirror grooming.

There might be multiple reasons behind this but kok growth is mostly the result of seeing another male (his reflection).
Watch how much you are feeding him and maybe lower the portion. He's looking a little fat. I feed my fish such a tiny amount by volume but it is supposed to be dense pallet and keeps him well fed.

I guess I don't see how hes fat. Both these pics were 30ish mins after I feeding. I never overfeed and stop his feedings with him still wanting more.
I am not 100% sure but his tummy looked little curvy. May be because pics were taken right after feeding.
How are you gauging that you are not overfeeding? RD told me a way to observe fish (which I do at least 30 mins every day) and notice the change. It hasn't been much longer but I felt change in pictures. Of course you are present there so you will have a better idea. Pictures can be sometimes deceiving as they show 3d world on a 2d plane.

Dylon did the same color changing. I thought it was from having a female but it was from him seeing another male. Once I took the male out his colors cMe all the way back.
