Well as some of you might know I have just gotten a chocolate pleco at a going out of business sale for $10. Here is my question; are chocolate (and other pleco basicly) the same? :goldfish:

By the way nice selection of smilies:):headbang2:popcorn:

Chocolates are actually very similar to Common pleco.. aside from their more harder body armor....

So if I were to breed them would it be like some sort of military fish???:)

I think u need to understand that common pleco and chocolate pleco are still different species.. but they do look alike..

I actually have a brown baby sailfin pleco and he looks like that camouflage spotted color..

try petsmart.. they do have lots of options for plecos... might take u 2-3 tries.. cuz they do die... u ahve to find the ones that are health look and not weak.. like stomach is sunken in.. or eyes..

Here is a site on them http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=80 All plecos are not the same, depending on the species diet can be variable. Some are strick vegetarians and some are almost carnivors like Leporacanthicus cf. galaxias. Good luck and i hope this site helps!!! :headbang2
If your pleco is the same as in the above link they are a great starter pleco. I have 3 in different tanks and they were the first "fancy" pleco's I owned. Mine do a great job on keeping the algae growth down in their tanks.
I find that they are a fairly hardy species that aren't to particular on their diet. Mine get fresh slices of zucchini once a week and a alga tab or 2 depending on size at night and a occasional shrimp pellet. I have also seen them eat various frozen foods that I give to my other fish (bloodworms, ground krill, brine shrimp)
I keep mine in slightly harder water then they recommend for them due to their tank mates being Victorian Cichlids. Their tank temp is 76-78 F. Filtration is strictly mechanical and biological. They get a 50 percent water change weekly.
Good luck with your pleco, any questions feel free to ask.
