The Real Norcal
For some reason the family comes to my house for Christmas,Its just always been that way. They come, they yippee, yahoo, woot woot, and make a mess everywhere.....cute.

After they leave its for some reason my job to clean up the mess.I dont mind because theres always things left behind....gift cards, unclaimed bills, and I have a sweet collection of headphones....."oh look, whats that? somone got a new motorola razor and didnt even take the blue tooth out of the package?MINE!!"...I dont know,it looks neat,Ill find something to use it for....

Anyway, this year aside from the forgotten treasures I found an empty package for a blacklight one of my nephews scored.Dont ask me how but this idea popped into my head, and I came up with this DIY moonlight....in fact, screw DIY this was DIS (Done In Seconds)

I took the backing off the package and covered it in foil (reflective side down).I then bundled the light strand back and forth along the length of the inside of the package, using rubber bands to hold it together.Last of all I put a few patches of clear tape across the package width-wise to make hold the lights in place.

I know it looks like crap, if somone had more patience they could get alot neater, especially with the tinfoil.Call it a prototype if you will,I am going to buy a 48" shop light hood (hopefuly with a reflector) and grab a few strands of blue lights and a glue gun and make something that most people who visit wont even be able to tell its DIY.

It looks exellent though, as good as any pictures of moon lights ive ever seen, its just that my camera is too big a pile to turn out any pics of it in action, but ill keep trying.

Radley,

I tried a 3 ft Black light on my 125 and it was crap, i could barely see the fish and all the junk on my wall (calcium, salt, etc....) behind my tank (wall) was amplified 1000%, not worth it IMHO! Try Led's insted.......should provide a nice shimmering effect.:D

I would like to see this christmas tree light / tinfoil setup on a tank a running though, might be nice as you have a bunch of lights not just one bulb like I had!!!:)

You put christmas lights on your tank! LOL That is a ghetto solution, but damn, good job on the idea. Your moonlight is probably better than mine, and I paid $30 a tank.
