Monos from what I have seen usually have more of a blackish navy color on the upper part of the body while ocellaris have more of the 3 bars and most of the body is the usual cichla yellowish color
Cichla Pleiozona from what I read have more scales in lateral rows and have a 4 vertical bar something monos do not. Also they seem to stay smaller than monos maxing out around 17 inches/44.2 cm
I was going by the 4 stripes mostly, but also note the body mottling above the lateral line, like what is seen on Jancibe's fish, as well as the second pic
