Anybody able to help ID this cichlid that got dropped in to my work place. It has been exhibiting sand sifting habits of earth eaters but I want to be 100% sure what it is before I bring it home. Thank you :)

Looks like a juvenile Aequidens to me from that photo...metae, or diadema.

Looks like a juvenile geophagus brasilliensis (pearl cichlid) to me

I edited the pic to help, with details.
Below left most Cichlasoma, Aequidens, and in many other S Americans, the caudel spot sits on the upper half/portion of the caudal peduncle.
In the lone pi provided, it appears more centered above, adding to confusion.

Above, Gymnogeophagus balzani to compare, but I don't think so
at this tender age there are too many ID options
Could even be one of genus Thorichthys, or Cribroheros

Thanks for all the help everyone, I was very perplexed when I first saw it. The person who bought it in said it was a firemouth but I don’t believe it is. I am going to monitor it and then hopefully I’ll be able to ID it in the future before it sells :)
