Yeah I'm going to try that. Since the male is acting like he wants to mate and the female is acting wierd which one should I take out?could try to separate them for a bit and then reintroduce them.
This is very normal.
Are they by themselves?
A pair often need some other antagonist cichlid to help them maintain a pair bond. Sometimes all it takes is to divide the tank and put another cichlid on the other side of the divider, and this will provide enough threat, and distraction to hold the pair together. They are actually with a young gold Severum I am growing out and a school of silver tip tetras. I'll try splitting them up, really hoping they pair back up
Sometimes, nothing works, much like humans, divorce is enevitable.
I got a small Severum the other day that should you know work as a distraction and maybe bond the pair to defend against this cichlids but they all three swim togetherAlong the lines of what Duanes and Dustin mention .. when I set up a Dempsey pair, I often will keep a few, smaller dempseys in the tank for the pair to chase around.
