This is my 8-foot motoro pond (separate from the 8-foot castexi pond). I find it really difficult to get good pictures in the ponds due to glare and lack of photographic expertise. But sometimes I try anyway! About 8 years ago I was given two cigar sharks that were about 7-8 inches long at the time. They're now approximately 21 inches (counting the tail). The owner was apparently going into a nursing home and the family needed to re-home the fish. They can get fairly large, so I felt like they had to go into one of my ponds. I know they're at some risk from the rays, but so far so good. (There's also a very large tinfoil barb in the background, also a rescue.) cigar sharks 11-22-24 three.JPGcigar sharks 11-22-24 two.JPG

Is there a cichlid species in there as well?
Yes, there is. A bunch of years ago someone gave me 100+ baby cichlids to use as feeders for the rays. They were 1+ inch at the time. I quarantined them and then added the whole lot to the pond. The rays ate a lot of them, but some were savvy enough to survive. Since then I have a constant population in and around the wood pile. I often see baby cichlids scooting around in there. There are about a dozen adult male cichlids with "territories" around the tank. The females mostly stay in or nearblue cichlid in motoro pond.jpg the wood pile. It's been super interesting to observe over the years. I have no idea what kind of cichlid they are. The picture shows one of the adult males.
