Australia
I recently saw 4 clown knives for sale in Australia.

The only problem is I am interested in live fish imports, and know for a fact that this species is not on the allowable import list. I also understand they aren't exactly easy to breed... so where are they coming from??

Whereabouts are you in Australia? I wouldn't mind getting hold of a Clown Knife myself

I went back to this place today, and got a chance to ask the origin of the Clown knives.

Apparently they are bred in Australia, with one 20 year old breeding pair kept in a 675g tank. He claims the pair produces about 20 young/year.

There were 4 in stock (I think there were 6 last time) at $300 each.

thats funny, i got mine for $6 (yes I am aware u are very restricted in what u can own there in aus. but its still funny)

Hey where abouts is this ABC Aquaculture place? Is it on the coast? I just live at Terrigal and wouldnt mind having a look. While im not 100% sure im pretty positive the guy you talked to is full of crap. Unless some other Aussie has heard of a clown knife breeder they would just have been smuggled in like everything else not on the live import list but he wouldnt want to tell you that. The only thing like that i know of is a guy in WA who has breed Senegal bichirs and sold them here is AUS. All the knifes, cats, gars, other bichirs ect are all smuggled in. Who cares if you can afford it buy one. Our laws are a joke.
