I'm getting a 5x2x2 150 gallon aquarium and wanted to know if that tank could house 5-6 clown loaches for life, if so what would be good tank mates, I thought about rainbowfish or a datnoid.

They'll be fine, I have 21 in a 180. On the plus side maintenance shouldn't be too much. You can keep pretty much anything that can't fit them in their mouth. Red tail black shark is a good choice, my clowns treat mine like it's part of the pack. I like rainbows and you could keep plenty of them. Also many barbs work well, though not sure on tigers being too nippy.

I see why you were asking what size my tank is now lol. As Chockful O Phail Chockful O Phail said, you should be fine. To give an idea, my four largest range from 7"+ to the largest being around 10" and approximately 8 years old. While I am making a 5x2x2 work, to be fair, a 6 footer would certainly be more ideal. I could see 6 12" clowns making a 5x2x2 look small. But you're also talking 10-15 years of growth to hit that size.

Yeah, if you don't have the tank yet and can get a 6x2x2, I would. 10 years down the road you'll be happy you did. I had to go with a 5x2x2 due to space constraints, so I just make it work.

Agreed, just keep in mind that for a CL, "life" can be 25 yrs, or more, and 12+ inches, and as thick as your wrist, fish. While it takes many years, I have seen 15-20 yr old CL's that were approx. 14", and thick as my forearm. Not all adult CL's will get that large, but for some the potential is there.

That'll be a nice tank. Plenty of space and I love clown loaches. Just make sure the tank mates are very peaceful and not bottom dwellers. Any type of dither fish will be fine, danios tetras etc. You could plant it well too, should look great.
