how big can my common pleco grow in my 30 gallon tank? tank dimensions are 30"x12"x18". he is already 8.5+ inches long and i got him about 9 months ago at 3 inches.

i have a pond with one around 2 and a half feet long no lie. get a bristlenose, they eat good algae, less messy, stay small, and have a very intriguing persona

how long did it take to get that big?

My pleco is was 18 inches when i measured it. This was when I removed it from a 30g tank where it had lived for 10 years. I only fed fishfood and algae waifers in the 30g. It's now in a 55g tank, and 22 inches. The tank is solely for my pleco. I'm bulding a 300+ gallon right now just for the fish as well. Diet plays a role. Mine eats algae waifers, romaine lettuce, snow peas, zuccini that I stuff with freeze-dried blood worms. It'll devour a bottle of worms in a day if I'd let it. Since adding a variety to its diet, it has gotten huge.

wow. i hope mine slows down its growth. id like it to stay alive for another 10+ years but if it grows as big and as fast as yours did, zomie11b. then i might end up with only my pleco and maybe one other big fish in there. if i keep one other big fish in there, it will probably be a fish that i catch from around here and raise it. i will have other fish in there too but most likely small fish like minnows and shiners and whatever other fish that are still alive.

i would do that if i could. i am still in high school so the tank is in my parents house and they said that a 30 gallon tank is the largest size tank that they will allow in the house. so the pleco is stuck in that until i get my own place and a larger tank.
