Convict cichlid

I’m leaning male, but the fish still looks fairly young.
I see a bit of pink in the belly but that could be an artifact and not the actual coloration. My female to compare:

Thanks this helps alot as i hv 2 and the other is definitely a male as the nautical hump is clearly visible is it recommended to keep them together because this convict does get picked alot but the tank is an 80 gallon w plenty of hiding spots

Time will tell. The worst aggression would come if there was a female involved. What other fish are in the tank? I see a salvini that would likely cause more issues than either con.

Males tend to be larger, at least I have a breeding pair and male is larger compared to female, both of mine have color but male has a bit of a hump on its head plus top and bottom fins are longer and pointier towards rear fin. It's hard if they aren't totally mature. Unfortunately for me they constantly have eggs but never result in anything, probably one of them is sterile.
