is there an issue with feeding rays cooked shrimp? At first they wouldnt touch it if it was pre cooked now i accedently got some and they gobble it up is there any harm to feeding them precooked shrimp?

Cooked shrimp is less in nutritional value. Thawing in hot water also lessens the nutritional value.

Best way to feed IMO is raw defrosted in the fridge overnight. Most aquariums feed their fish/rays this way.

No harm, it has very little nutrient value though, raw is always better.

What nutrient are we talking about?

The amount of protein, minerals and vitamins remains the same in cocked shrimpes as in the raw ones.

All the nutrients are found indside the cells of the shrimp.

And we dont brake down the cells when they are cocked.

So there is only a very very little loss of nutrients during coocking. We are talking 0.5-1% MAX.

So let the myth die. Its about time.

alright thanks guys, i didnt think there was gonna be a problem with it since they ate it but ... just thought i would ask

It is a proven fact that cooking food loses alot of the nutritional value compared to consuming raw food. Not a myth at all. Might as well feed it to them instead of waste it. But no one feeds cooked over raw zoos, aquariums etc.

I agree. A lot of the articles I am finding show that many vitamins are broken down by cooking, especially B- Vitamins. I've toured a couple facilities, and they feed raw peeled and tailless shrimp.

Then show a link. :)

Yes zoo feed raw food cos they have the money for it and to keep in natural. ;)
